Dancing for a new boy band should be a teenager’s dream come true, but success comes at a price. Driven by jealousy, Jennifer’s spiteful attack almost ends Carrie’s fabulous new dancing career, but luckily the strong hands and caring heart of the gorgeous Daniel Lewis, are there to pick up the pieces. Being deeply in love, as only first love can feel, Carrie is devastated when Daniel heads off on a three year football scholarship in Atlanta, but despite her father’s harsh disapproval and Jennifer’s continued vindictive crusade, Carrie is determined to stay true. Refusing to believe all is lost and despite Daniel’s mystifying silence, Carrie sends him secret messages of love as she dances her way round the world. But while her hectic schedule is filled with dreams of Daniel, he discovers football stardom and contracts worth millions of dollars. With the allure of hundreds of beautiful women and the offer of a lifestyle beyond his wildest dreams, will Daniel find America a temptation too strong to ignore? Or was a single summer of thumping hearts and heated looks, enticement enough for Daniel to give up his silent treatment and come home to Carrie once more.

Although teenage girls are the most obvious audience for this book, the author has written so skillfully that I believe any reader who values quality literature will appreciate it.

This novel isn't just your typical teenage love story, though teenage girls will certainly enjoy it. What makes it different is the nature of one of the most significant obstacles keeping Carrie and Daniel apart. Carrie spends the better part of the book trying to figure out the situation herself; it is inevitable that a reader will feel the suspense too--a nice surprise, since suspense is hardly an ingredient in most teenage love stories.

The strength of the character development is another reason to love this book. I thought at first that Daniel was a little too perfect, but he also turns to be flawed, just as we all are. Carrie, despite being in some very unusual situations, comes across like a real person too. At the same time, the author manages to make her a potentially inspiring character for teenage readers, yet her evolution from mooning over her crush to really taking control of her life seems realistic. Carrie gains strength a little at a time, and doesn't always succeed, but she always keeps trying. If she has a dream, whether it is dancing or being with Daniel, she fights to make that dream a reality. However, when the dream evolves in a different direction than she expects, as with her dancing, she manages to summon the courage to change course. As a teacher I appreciate not only the realistically created character but also her potential to serve as an inspiration.

Nor is Carrie's character all that might inspire teenagers. The story includes a well-crafted anti-bullying message, and though it isn't the most major element in the story, the author manages to weave it throughout the novel. In addition, the author manages to present positive messages about sexual conduct, taking responsibility for one's actions, and not being devoured by the pursuit of fame and fortune--and all of that happens without the novel ever sounding preachy. Carrie's adventures with dance and Daniel's with sports (both rugby and American football) let teenagers get involved in the action while these messages do their subtle work in the background.

I am nowhere near being part of the target audience for this book, but I enjoyed it immensely, and I am sure that you will as well!

Silent Treatment Jackie Williams 9781482382327 Books Reviews

I was attracted to this book because it's about a dancer and the cover picture is so gorgeous. Although this could be seen as a teenage romance, I think it is a must read for any true romantic at heart. The characters are warm and engaging, from Carrie's parents, to her friends and of course the romance between her and Daniel. The story was an unexpected delight.

Carrie is sixteen at the beginning of the book. She has known Daniel since they were children. She knows she is in love with him, but isn't sure how he feels about her. He is two years older and obtains a scholarship to the States. Carrie is devastated when he leaves. For three years she hears nothing from him, but she can't let go of the love she has for him, until she knows for sure there is no hope.

I am only scratching the surface of this story because I don't want to spoil it for readers. It is such a treasure of a book, you just have to read it and enjoy every page. I loved Carrie and I especially loved Daniel. What a hero! The kind of guy every girl would want to meet and fall in love with her. Sigh!

This book made me smile, gave me a tear, and made my heart soar. It was such a happy, uplifting but touching story. The ending was perfect. I loved every word and was sorry when it finished. I could have continued reading Carrie and Daniels story a great deal longer.

This author writes an engaging and wonderful story. I will certainly be downloading another book from her. I spent several happy hours reading this and highly recommend it to lovers of romance of all ages.
Teenagers Carrie and Daniel have known each other since primary school. Carrie is bullied at high-school and Daniel comes to her rescue. He loves her but he lacks the confidence to fess up, for he has no idea she feels the same way. Carrie’s travails are exacerbated by her well-meaning but uninformed parents who drive a wedge between the pair.
School days come to an end, and the would-be young lovers go their separate ways. Carrie wins a contract with a troop of dancers backing a boy band. Daniel is sent to America on a three-year football scholarship. Misunderstandings and lost messages lead to a long separation with no contact. This consummate author keeps her readers on pins until the end of the book.
'Silent Treatment' is sure to appeal to older teenage girls; however, the story is sufficiently captivating to keep many young-at-heart adults turning the pages.
Solid read, but I didn't find it to be anything special. Regular high school romance, with the hot bad boy and shy good girl (although Thank god der wasn't a Virgin)
My husband is a high school English teacher, and Jackie Williams captured the high school experience accurately and beautifully.
Daniel and Carrie (the hero and heroine) made a great couple. And although it took three years of silence to get to the end game, it was well worth the wait. This book had a large cast of colorful, entertaining characters. I had fun despising Jennifer—Carrie’s jealous best friend. Carrie’s father, Jim, was a riot. There was one scene in particular where he misunderstood a delicate situation that had me rolling on the floor with laughter. I highly recommend Silent Treatment for young adults and adults alike. The story was a wonderful roller coaster ride of emotional ups and downs with a fantastic happily-ever-after ending.
